What is LubriSyn made of-and why is that important?

LubriSyn is a liquid, daily oral joint supplement. Its active ingredient is hyaluronan. Hyaluronan (HA) is liquid in its natural state, naturally occurring in the synovial fluid that cushions the joints and other tissues of all mammals. LubriSyn contains a liquid, high-molecular weight HA, derived from microbial fermentation, rather than from protein sources, such as rooster combs or chicken cartilage. Protein-based HA breaks down far more readily and is subject to contamination.

This high-molecular weight solution derived from microbial fermentation has been evaluated and confirmed as most effective in the 2004 Journal of Applied Nutrition, in an article entitled Will the Real HA Please Stand Up?” This article contains over 160 citations from scientists who have studied the effects of oral HA and validated the formulation used by LubriSyn. In fact. LubriSyn’s formulation provides optimum joint lubrication because it matches the joint’s natural HA, providing a molecular weight of at least 2.4 million Daltons. In this unique liquid solution, the HA in LubriSyn is actually absorbed in the mucosal membranes of the mouth and throat, well before reaching the stomach and the digestive tract HA in its powdered form-the formulation used in most other HA supplements-is not absorbed at all before it reaches the stomach. Powdered HA reaches the digestive tract, where its molecular weight is broken down and rendered ineffective. Is LubriSyn safe and effective in comparison with other joint supplements?

Hyaluronan has been certified generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA and is supported by independent safety studies in dogs and horses.

Daily oral HA supplementation using LubriSyn can sustain the integrity of joint fluid, reducing the need for costly and painful HA injections (also known as viscosupplementation).
